Questions on dog food mites!

I've had many questions and emails about the mites that were in Max's food. Several of my followers have wondered about their own dog's food. So I thought maybe it would be easier to just do a little post! In answer to the some questions ~ no they were NOT visible to the eye, his food looked PERFECTLY normal. He's always had a sensitive tummy. On Father's Day it was making all kinds of LOUD noises then he started getting these painful little cramp episodes that scare him (he's had them before). All this stopped and he ate his dinner fine. But in the wee hours of the morning he had to run outside. Thank goodness the little guy has NEVER been a messer in the house...if you know what I mean! So anyway we took a little poo sample to the vet and THIS is where the mites were discovered...under the microscope. 

Apparently grain mites are not uncommon, they're even in human foods. Not all dogs have an issue with them, but Max is one of the FEW that is allergic. He's now eating a grain free food (loves the stuff!) and is currently having fresh veggies for treats. This boy has become partial to sweet potatoes...little stinker!

So anyway I hope this helps to answer some questions and take care of fears for your own dog's food. If they're happy and healthy you're probably ok. In other words...if it aint broke don't fix it!!
